    Mounted Color Guard

I know I'm a long way from being able to participate but could anyone tell me more about the mounted color guard. I'm looking for information on if there are any specific requirements or requirements to participate. Anything you can pass along would be much apperciated.
    Thank you for your time.

You need to be more specific. What mounted color guard? As far as I know, their is no "mounted color guard" in the Corps. Maybe some special dog and pony show unit. Did I miss something, Tonto?

This is what i found with a quick google search,, seems dated --> http://www.blm.gov/ca/st/en/prog/wil...lor_Guard.html

the Barstow color guard is the only official Mounted Color Guard by the Headquarters Marine Corps and rides in the Rose Parade every year

I'm pretty certain the Barstow mounted color guard is the only one in the Marine Corps. One of my brothers was at Barstow for three-years during the late 1970s, and he said only top-notch riders were accepted into the color guard and the try-outs were tough.

The predominant rule of the color guard, during its founding days and even today, if a person joined that didn't know how to ride, they would be taught how to.

Rank didn't, and still doesn't today, have any sway into whether or not a Marine could be on the color guard.

There is no MOS for it but you must be stationed at Barstow

Zulu 36 would you please ask your brother more about the try outs? I know it's not an MOS but it is some thing I would be intrested in participating in none the less. Thanks to everyone who has replied so far.

He didn't try-out, just saw them occasionally. Heard what the try-outs were like. Watched them practice sometimes. Plus he was a non-horse riding city boy.

I'm as lazy as the OP and didn't look it up. There was a mounted color guard at pendleton when I was there. Everyone that was in it was on FAP to the base stables. I don't know what how they got that gig or what requirements they have to be in it.
