Rose Garden Poster
I am looking for a downloadable copy of the circa 1970 recruiting poster "We never promised you a rose garden" depicting a DI giving instruction to a Recruit & bordered black. CMC removed it from use shortly after issue as not depicting a positive image. There was also a similar photo/poster of a DI counseling a Pvt in a poncho during rain. Looked at the downloadable "posters section" of this site - many posters are there - not these.
Appreciate any assist.

Gunner,
Try seeing if you can find the image on the Marine Crops Association site, www.mca-marines.org. I think they sell a reprint of the poster and may have an image on the bookstore portion of the web site. If not, try using the USMC recruiting site, www.mcrc.mil and search in the Public Affairs arena or the Marketing sections of that web site. Somewhere, I have a cd or PPT presentation with that image.

Yes, that is the poster. I went to the site but could not find the one we are speaking of. Must be hidden under one of the link pages - I'll do a more in depth search when I get a few minutes. Thanks.

A story that we had on leatherneck....
Former drill instructor Sgt. Charles A. Taliano signs one of his campaign posters. The now famous "Rose Garden" recruting campaign ran from late 1971, to mid 1984.

I read that article - had no idea that poster had hung in that long - I seem to remember that soon (very soon) after its release - the poster was pulled as not reflecting a positive attitude that was desired for the "New" Corps. (That article rekindled my interest in finding a copy of the poster)
Thank God - Marines are still Marines - Old Corps/New - little difference as can be attested to by recent conflicts.
Thanks and Semper Fi
Happy 228th

I've never noticed before, if you look close you can see the recruit "eye balling" the Drill Instructor! No wonder he needs instruction!

I was given this same picture when I graduated from DI School back in 1997 from MCRD San Diego. It is a puzzle and was lput together and framed by my Best Man. Him and I were in the same platoon in Recruit Training and we have remained tight since then. Awesome gift from a very good friend. Semper Fi, Art! Happy Birthday, Marines!
