If you had to give one line of advice.
If you had to give, as an older Marine, one line of advice in life, to all future Marines what would it be?
Mine would be: Learn all you can. The phrase: "I'm a Jack of of all trades, and a master of none" neans alot. Learn every thing you can possibly learn while you are young. You will never know when you will need some old salts knowledge.

advice
1. If the Marine Corps wanted you to have a wife you'dve of been issued one in boot camp. Wait til you're a Sgt or above.
2. Be wary of and be able to spot sharks, slackers, hangers-on's, & glory hounds.
3. The Corps isn't for everyone but, give it a least 3yrs. DO NOT be held sway by the crowd that'll call you a "lifer" if you even remotely have thoughts of staying in. For the love of mud make that decision yourself & pay attention to the economy. You are NOT invincibe just because you're a Marine. No job means no vittles!!
4. If you get out or stay in USE THE VA. It is for you & it's NOT 3rd world medical care.
5. "Once a Marine, always a Marine" It's not just a catchy slogan off of a recruiting poster. You'll see yourself doing it for life after you get out.

Ya know, most younguns like I was let old salts knowledge go in one ear and out the other. Just as I did. But I have to say, if I had listened to those "Old Salts" my life would have been much better than it turned out.

Take tons of pictures of everyone, and everything while you are in, label everyone with names, dates, and curcumstances so that when you are an old f#rt Marine you will have those memories to go through. I have many pictures of Men I knew while in, but can't remember alot of their names, or their home towns.
