Phony Military Organizations
There are a bunch of phony military organizations in this country and more pop up all the time. For the last 10 years or so, I've seen a variety of groups calling themselves the American Volunteer Reserve and USAVR.
Here's an article about one in Temple City, California from last month:

The article gives a link to the organization's website, which includes promotion criteria: http://www.eftb.net/usavr/Announcement.aspx

I have the authority to appoint you 'Commode-ore' in the 393rd Underground Messkit Balloon Repair Battalion (Ships Company) (Airborne) for a VERY limited time.
Act now, this offer won't last!
Your mileage may vary.

Of course, if you have the girth, you could come out with THESE guys:
As we all know, Confederates were typically 300 pounds and wore equipment that came right from the 'reenactor catalog'. Fresh and clean, too! Note the yellow sweatshirt sleeves, indicating 'Dis-mounted Cavalry'.
Of course, here we have the 'de-rigeur' look this season. Beeer gut and Marlboro. Beer CAN is extra. Hair by 'Monsen'. Shirt by "Ringling bros". Cap by "Taiwan"
Finally, for those who want to be in the 4th Reeeeiicch, you too can
be a blimp. Or "Heinz". (Of the 57 sizes). Hitler moustache
extra for that 'just took over Austria' look the chicks will LOVE.
Shoulder cords by 'Guicci'. Sizes by "Chapman Tentage and Awning"

Those are some pretty funny comments.
You know, about those re-enactors... I could never do it, but at least those guys know they're pretending and if you see them, you won't mistake them for anything other than what they are.
I've even seen people in sandals and kilts with swords at the city park acting out some kind of Dungeons and Dragons kind of thing.
