Service stripe hash mark transfer service?

With 5 years prior service in the Navy, would the hash mark transfer over when I joined the Marine Corps reserve?

As others probably have, we had a prior with us in BC. He had a hash mark and more ribbons than 2 of our 3 DI's.

Yup. Hashmarks are for years of military service, no matter the branch.

Interesting, I wouldn't dream of asking a DI to put on all my prior service ribbons during bootcamp in fear of retaliation. How was he treated, and was it up to him or the DI's to let him wear his ribbons?

you don't wear ribbons, chevrons, or hashmarks in boot camp. Even contract PFC's are nothing more or less than a slick sleeve private in boot.

That makes sense, it would be nice to go though without them even knowing so I wouldn't get treated any differently. I wouldn't think DI's had the time to go through every service record.

I slightly mispoke .... you will wear whatever you rate on the few occasions that you wear the service uniform. You'll not be running the O course in charlies though
