  1. Sir,

What you have described is similar with what I have read. If you don't mind me asking, what were your duties during Desert Storm? I want to be deployed at least once and I would like to have an idea of what I would be doing. I actually enjoy teaching different things, I taught all summer at a boy scout camp. Firefighting or police officer was my plan if my Marine Corps plan fell through. Thank you for your message.
  2. I didn't know anything about NBC when I went to boot camp. I went open contract because my recruiter told me that was the best way to get 0311, I didn't even know at the time there was an NBC MOS. When we were told our MOS' at the end of boot camp I actually had to ask my DI's what an NBC Specialist was, they told me "You run the gas chamber, boy!". Well that is true when you get into the Fleet part of your responsibilities will be to run the Bi-Annual Mask Confidence Exercise for your unit (that's probably why not too many people mess with the NBC guys). However, most of your job will be to store and maintain the equipment used in NBC Operations, that means you will be in a wharehouse or something similiar and will be responsible for issuing and recieving of gear from your units Marines. The next biggest responsibility you will have is to train all Marines in your unit in NBC Operations. Teaching was my favorite part of the job and since my first duty station was 3rd MarDiv NBC Plt, Okinawa I got to teach quite a bit. Division Platoon's usually have I&I duties. NBC has also grown from the red-headed stepchild that it once was and is taken alot more seriously than when I was in. Although I was everyone's best friend on the way to Desert Storm. When I went to school it was in Alabama on an Army base (what an experience that was) but I know they have changed the location to another Army base, I think in Texas. So I wouldn't be able to give you any good info on that but anything else you would like to know just ask and I will be happy to share anything I know with you. I thouroghly enjoyed being an NBC Specialist and it is probably what led me into the Fire/Rescue Services since I have gotten out. If any of this stuff sounds remotely interesting you will probably enjoy the job.
  3. Sir,

When I decided that the Marine Corps is what I truly wanted, I got a book of all the MOSs the Corps had. I looked through almost all of them. I came upon NBC and read the description. I then went online and researched more. I became fascinated with what I read. Although I do not know the job first hand, I feel it would be something I could excel in.

    Thank you,

    Abyss
  4. I was in NBC, I went in open contract and that what I got. Turned out to be the best job I could have hoped for. I was just wondering what got you interested in NBC?
