  1. Honestly it just depends on the needs of the Corps. You'll get your MOS at the end of bootcamp or MCT. I had high asvab scores and was told Id probably be data 0651 or a tech 28xx and ended up being a R.O. Either way you can expect Boot, MCT, then Comm School at 29 palms. Your MOS can be either a 0612 0621 0622 or 0651. First 3 MOS courses last average about 8 weeks. Data school is a bit longer. If youre an 0612 you wont work with just wires. That MOS is more complex and youd cross train to help with satelitte comm including the WPPL or SWAN which is used for NIPR/SIPR aswellas SVOSIP. ifyou dont know what that is PM me and I can give you more details. 0621 you learn how to establish, maintain and operate radio nets ranging from High Frequency to Ultra High frequencies to include programs that run like a basic AIM to relay information. You could go anywhere in the Marine Corps. Whether in the wing setting up comm so birds can talk to the ground. Grunts using the gear on the ground. Supports relaying information on your units needs whether convoys, intel, higher echlons of command. 0622 never worked with one so not much info sorry. 0651data working with computers and setting up the NIPR and SIPR which wire helpsestablish and maintain. Data does a lot. As a Comm Marine the biggest things you'll need to remember is even if you have to do "dumb" labor it serves a purpose in the battlefield. Patrols cant go out with out comm. Birds need comm to best serve the troops on the ground. ALL info in country is passed through somm sort of comm. Our MOSs are vital. You will constantly be working extra hours. Im not saying we are $h!t hot. Every MOS is important. So regardless on what you get work hard. What MOS would you like to be?
