I read Ray's book "My Three Years in the Marine Corps" for the first time in 2010 I don't know of a better way to get insight into what the Marine Raiders of WWII were thinking and doing other than read their letters home. This book is a personal insight into the life of a Marine Raider and his family and friends back in the states; particularly his Sweetheart.
Marines, this is a great read and an excellent addition to your library.
I've also read Ray's former and current sweetheart and wife, Helen's book, "Simple Times, Simple Pleasures" It was a great read also and gives insight into what it was like for her during that time, which was one of the toughest times in American history.
