    ASP-1 - Hill 327 - Da Nang

    Hello everyone,
I have put together a site dedicated to ASP-1. I arrived there in April of 1966 and stayed until Jan 1967 when I was attached ti H&S Co. 2/3. We shipped out of Viet Nam to Okinawa for re supply with new equipment and the soon to be despised M-16. Since I was getting short for rotation back to the states I was left behind in Camp Hansen, Okinawa. I did not have the pleasure of hitting Hill 881 with 1/3 2/3 and 3/9 I think it was. When they hit that ill fated hill I was just back in the real world.
Here is the link to the ASP-1 site: ASP-1 Click Here

I just finished getting it running last night. I have photos of the Dump, Dogpatch, Red Beach, and more.

Anyone here have any memories or photos of the ammo dump to share?

My memories of ASP-1 are from an entirely different viewpoint! My Arty battery got it's ammo there! We would saddle-up 4 or 5 duece-ana-halfs and drive as rapidly as possible, north on highway 1 ('bout 30 miles) to the ASP! Upon arrival we got to load them thar trucks(usually by hand) and get our young a$$es back to the battery 'fore dark!Highway one was not the place you wanted to be ridin',after dark, ridin'shotgun, with 2 1/2 tons of arty ammo in the back!!!!!!!!!!

I remember those convoys Bob! One or two of the trucks had .50 cal machine guns track mounted over the cab. When I was one of the escorts to the ammo I always had to lend a hand with the loading.

Bob, I was at ASP#1 from 4/66 to 12/66. I remember loading plenty of arty rounds on trucks! Question, were you in 3rdMarDiv and did you support 3rdMarDiv Ops?

    Hi Joeycap!
Really nice to hear from you! I'm looking foward to emailing you!

I'm in the States until Feb. 4, 2009 visiting family. I don't have an internet connection and have to borrow the neighbor's wireless connection( with Permission) I have a long hike to be in range so until I'm back in Holland my emails will be put on hold. I have your address in my contacts and you can expect to hear from me in the first week of Feb. 2009.

Once again really nice to hear from you!

    Very Best Regards

Redman1, Mike and I were at ASP#1, the ammo dump on Hill 327 that overlooked the Danang Airbase and Dogpatch. We were in SupCo,FLSG"A", 3rdServBn, FLC,IIIMAF.
Mike just left the states a day ago and should be back in Holland I would assume, today.

Mike, good to hear you made it home ok. Years ago, more than 20, I went to visit Heide when he was living on the west side of the state. After that I heard he moved to texas and that was the last I ever heard. He was really pushing hard at the time to get us the PUC we got screwed out of! I'd like to know what became of him too!
I've got a bunch of pics posted on this site. You haven't seen them? Gonna go to my yahoo email now and answer that one! Catch ya later Mike!
