    5711 Nbc Defense Specialist

I was just wondering if anyone had any information about NBC:
    • Is there anything I can study to be more prepared for job school?
    • What does it entail?
Also if there are any last minute "words of wisdom" about bootcamp, generally speaking, it would be appreciated...

    Thank You

How do you get prepared to do NBC? Really can not give you an answer. Best bet is to lock yourself into your bathroom, grab your girlfreinds and your moms and your sisters and your aunts pepper spray, rig a device to spray all of them at the same time and just sit there on the crapper and breath it all in.

One more thing, I didn't mind the gas chamber, but no one liked the gas chamber!

Well this is what I know of the NBC Marines. i'm not sure how much detail it entails but they usually are in the training and detection but majority of their time is in a warehouse. They run the gas chambers and also teach you on how to use all the tape drink water from canteen thru your mask. Decon equipment etc. I'm sure there is more fun stuff behind the scenes but what i could not say for I dont see it.

    Welcome to the Chamber....

Probably too late to help the Devil that asked the original question, but for anyone else who stumbles across this... If you are thinking about going NBC, start running to build up your endurance. For some reason, the sadistic instructors at NBC Det. Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo, find it wildly entertaining to get into MOPP-4 (full NBC suit w/ mask, gloves, etc.) and run all over the state of missouri. Try to time your enlistment to get to school in the cooler months. I was unlucky enough to get there in the late spring/early summer. Summer in the great state of Misery...er...Missouri is like hell, only with more humidity. Bring your own entertainment, as there is none available at Fort Lost-In-The-Woods and because of the intense course of studies you probably won't have much libo time (I know I didn't). I won't spoil all the surprises, but the last event of the school is the Chemical Defense Training Facility, or CDTF. You will be in MOPP-4 for about 4 hours (which seems like 4 years) in a live nerve agent environment with live VX and GB Sarin nerve gas. Nerve racking, but fascinating. If you survive, you'll go to the fleet. You will inventory the same gear aprox 5 gazillion times. You will maintain test and decon and detection equipment. Practice public speaking. You will train other Marines in your unit to protect themselves form NBC threats, as well as first-aid, unmasking procedures and my favorite.... Mask Confidence. This is where a young Marine or NCO can exact his revenge on anyone in his unit who has ever ****ed him off. You, young Tuefel, will be in complete control of the world that is the Gas Chamber. This is YOUR world. You will train other Marines to have confidence that their mask does indeed work and will protect them. You will also have a great time watching the people who didn't listen to your period of instruction on how to don and clear the M40A1 Field Protective Mask. They will hack and snot and cough and cry and wheaze, and if you're lucky- panic, as you break open another capsule of CS gas and pour it on the burner. Depending on what kind of unit you end up with, there will be a fair amount of down time, but I found most unit leaders at all levels of command were more than happy to set up additional face-to-face training time with teir Marines, so by all means, take some initiative and build your own training program. Hope this helps. Good Luck, Godspeed, and Semper Fi.
