Marine Corps EOD

The MOS I am really intersested in is Explosive Ordnance Disposal. I understand that you must be at least a Lance Corporal, be 21 years of Age, and have a first class PFT (there may be others I left out). How much competition is there for the EOD field? Do they select Marines from certain MOS's more than others? Do they look at things such as college education, if so, what majors?

If anyone, especially and EOD Tech, could awnser some of these questions it would be much appreciated.
