USMC Mystery 1920s
N H avery CHenoworth History "Semper FI" page 117 are two pictures of unknown USMC detachment on a battleship..that had 3 14 inch turrets...
Only 9 battleships had these turrets...USS Nevada; USS Oklahoma; USS Pennsylvania USS Arizona; Idaho, Mississippi, New Mexico, California, and Tennessee
The USMC NCO Corporal wears a Fourragère [The French Fourragère, a braided cord worn on the shoulder, was awarded to the 5th and 6th Marine Regiments for their heroic actions during World War I, particularly at Belleau Wood, and these are the only Marine Corps units authorized to wear it. ]
PS the unknown USMC detachment on page 71 is part of a series of pictures of the USS Kearsarge (1861)
