New Yorkers Will Have to Provide Social Media Accounts in Order to Buy a Gun

The New York State Senate approved legislation that would ban concealed weapons from so-called "sensitive locations" and require gun buyers to provide their social media handles and character references.

Gov. Kathy Hochul (D-NY) signed the bill saying that to her, it's "the embodiment of what it means to be an American…in honor of our Fourth of July weekend, I look forward to signing the legislation."
With the new law, people who want to purchase a firearm license will have to provide a list of social media accounts they have maintained over the last three years, so officials can verify their "character and conduct."
Applicants will also have to prove they have the "essential character, temperament and judgment necessary to be entrusted with a weapon and to use it only in a manner that does not endanger oneself and others."
According to the measure, applicants will have to complete at least 16 hours of in-person training, and private businesses will be off-limits for firearms unless their owners post conspicuous signage indicating otherwise.
Hochul signed the bill into law shortly after the Democratic-controlled Legislature passed the proposal, calling it an "extraordinary session."

This comes a week after the Supreme Court ruled in favor of gun rights, stating that rules that require residents to show a need to obtain a concealed carry permit were unconstitutional.
The law, which will take effect on September 1, is expected to face challenges from gun advocates who disagree with having to give references in order to purchase a firearm to protect themselves.

In Israel, the terrorist threat is 24/7. Hence, many carry and have prevented many terrorist actions and/or significantly lessened the damage caused by same. However, per capita, they very significantly do not suffer the catastrophic number of US firearm deaths. Why? https://www.israelhayom.com/2019/08/...i-gun-culture/

In Israel, all Military personal, regardless of rank or sex carry their weapons 24-7. No matter if your a female on the beach sunbathing. If your in the Military, you have your weapon with you. The Israeli police force and Military are trained to shoot first, ask questions later. But, the main reason is they don't have a Country run by immoral, progressive idiots that doesn't give a rats azz in hell about anyone unless they are black, gay, transgender, or illegal.

In the so called "OLD WEST", everyone carried to protect themselves from whatever was a threat.

It was TV that portrayed gunfights at every corner.

Drama, created the portrayal of outlaws and such. Very few robbed individuals and banks, simply because the entire town would unleash firepower on the bad guys.

Once you take away the ability to defend yourself and others, you enable the bad guys to feel confident and create more crime as they have less fear of repercussions...

Indeed, all manner of firearms are carried by the Israeli populace; locked and loaded. I've visited there twice. I personally consulted with a couple of their combat psychiatrists on issues of treatment for PTSD. Issues of suicide by firearm were far less critical then here in the USA per capita. But Mongoose, U didn't answer my question. Why do they not have the Israeli citizen on citizen deaths by firearms per capita and suicide, as we have here in America?

In Israel they are bonded by their Religion. They understand they will be persecuted till the last day. They realize that they need one another to survive. They may have differences, but, none that would over shadow their beliefs. They are not divided by diversity. Nor do they have a Government that totally don't give a shet about what's going on in America. Now I know you like to analyze peoples thoughts. So analyze this......everything that is going on in this World, right now as I write, has been proclaimed many times in the Bible.

Hahahaha! Israel "united" is an oxymoron. I am Jewish. We have a sad but true saying: "Get 10 Jews together, and you get 100 arguments!" Obviously, you don't have any idea about their continual government re-elections and turnovers et al. You think we have problems w/a divided government. Look up politics in Israel for a look at real mishegoss (yiddish for FUBAR).

Below is from Wikipedia re diversity in Israel. You said they are all one, but far from it and constantly haggling one another. The battle between the conservatives vs the progressive too often turn more violent than here.

But you again fail to answer my original question. Why the USA numbers of firearm deaths vs Israel's?

Sgt. Goody, lets start by saying that in America you have to live in certain areas to be able to carry a weapon with you to defend yourself. The criminal justice system is corrupt in many states. We have a Congress that makes Heroes out of habitual criminals. We have a Government handing out crack pipes and cities that have safe houses for addicts to take their drugs so they can be saved if they overdose. There are major cities where certain areas of town are a safe haven for addicts, where they sell and use drugs openly, without fear of law enforcement. We have D.A.'s in metro areas that have decriminalized certain crimes because they are said to be discriminating against blacks. We have schools with government support teaching young children that immoral behavior is considered normal. We have radical groups such as Antifa, Blm, and Proud boys all over the U.S. constantly looking for a situation so they can start shet. We have groups burning downtown areas and destroying businesses without worry about law enforcement. We have cities that have de-funded it's police departments and then wondered why crime is out of hand. The list goes on and on and on. We have the most corrupt and evil Government ever created in America (right now). So Sgt.Goody, when you take all this screwed up mess and add to it the fact that Obama started (with success) I might add, a revolution of racial hate in America never seen before, followed up by a brain dead sitting President......I would venture to say we're lucky gun deaths aren't higher than they are....

Actually, you are right about firearm deaths; surprised there aren't more. Mild-moderate depression makes males angry, irritable ("pi---ssed off" about many issues they complain), low self-esteem (the need for supposed "male" virility enhancers as firearms-military-like especially-very male...) often hypersexual in an almost sadistic fashion, heavy alcohol (a depressant) use and capable of killing themselves and or others. IMHO, such disorder is endemic in our society.

Indeed, with the proliferation of firearms in our country, it does astound me that there are not more deaths et al. We agree on something...!
