Looking for some help locating Boot Platoon information from 1969

I hope this is the right spot for this question, apologies if it is not. My uncle recently passed away and my Aunt and I are trying to put together his Flag Box but have found we have NO photos of him in uniform.
We have sent off for his records from the archives and are waiting, but have been told we could possibly get his Boot photo/Platoon photo if we can find the Platoon number.
His DD214 show an entry date of April 1969 and we know he went to MCRD San Diego before shipping to Vietnam. Does anyone know how I could possible locate this information?

You could try contacting the MCRD Museum in San Diego (www.corpshistory.org). Their list of recruit books doesn't include any from April 1969, but it might be worth a shot.

Otherwise, I'd keep an eye on eBay for recruit books for sale. If you don't know the platoon number it might be difficult, but perhaps if you messaged the seller, they'd be willing to look in the book and see if your uncle's name is listed. For example, right now there's a book for sale from the 1969 Platoon 1156.

I was in platoon 1063 in April '69 at MCRD San Diego. I can look in my book if I knew his name, but it would only be for 1063.

Thank you for the offer. His name was Greg Freeman.

Do you know if the entry date on the DD214 would be the date he started Boot or finished?

    Thanks again!

We have sent away for his records, so hopefully those will help.

Prior to 1953, there was no formal infantry training in
the Marine Corps, and all Marines received combat training at
    "Recruit training"
Between 1954 & 1966, all Marines received 12 weeks of Boot Camp
(Basic Training) and 8 weeks of Infantry Training Regiment (ITR)
regardless of their Primary Military Occupational Specialty (MOS),
growing out of the philosophy that all Marines are riflemen first.

Due to manpower demands for Vietnam,
    in 1967 Boot Camp training
was reduced from 12 weeks to 8 weeks,
and ITR was reduced from 8 weeks to 4 weeks.

In 1971, infantry skills training for non-infantry Marines
was folded into recruit training and entailed only 60 training hours.
acording to that wiki page - your uncle spent 8 weeks or
so training almost immediatly after the ENTRY date on
that copy of his DD 214-
so that put his "Graduating" boot camp no earlier
    than the first of June.

you may check over @ www dot yellowfootprints dot com
and luck out working out a boot platoon number,
perhaps even to see a photo already posted by some
old fart Marine or family ... Odds are against it -but worth
    a shot.

when all is said and done it comes down to how much
time and money do you want to spend-
You may be ahead of the game knowing
you may be better off calling that
    www dot corpshistory dot org
a call and ask a RESEARCHER what it is worth
to copy and send at least an electronic photo / jpg / what ever ?

think out of the box on this one-
just like the rest of us.
    and good luck
