    Can a Veteran reenlist?

Can a Marine Veteran (been out about 8 years) reenlist?

depends on your character of discharge and RE code... also, subtract the number of years of service you have completed from your current age, if the result is 28 or less, you can reenlist provided you meet the other qualifying factors.... sometimes it is easier to reenlist in the reserves and then request augmentation to active duty. Go see a "prior service recruiter" to find out everything you need to do.....Good Luck.....

If you can locate a PSR, good luck having them return your calls. The USMC is downsizing and not interested in retreads (they want highschool seniors).

Let us know if you actually do talk to a PSR and what they say for future reference - somebody in the future may have the same question. Good luck.

Hmm. Well, in a perfect world, maybe I would consider it.

By that, I mean, if I could confidently feel that what I did would add value to the world at large, then yeah—maybe I’d do it (not that they’d want me as a nurse at 71, of course!). Or, of course, if we were invaded by a foreign power.

But that’s not the way war seems to shake out. “My” war, what the Vietnamese rightfully call the American War, did nothing positive for anyone, IMHO, and devastated that little country, whose only major sin was having an unpopular regime at its head that made an unholy pact with our government in a vain attempt to stay in power. It did not make the world—or us—safer, richer, or kinder.

Since that time—although I’m sure we did it before that time as well—it seems we charge into countries for the same reason we went into Viet Nam—unholy alliances—as well as for our own national interests (oil, for instance, the Holy Grail of the Neocons who advised Dubya, although Neocons have also historically posited that we had a duty to police the world, which I find simplistic. Good essay on it here: What’s a Neoconservative?). That seems wasteful and destructive, both in terms of human lives and minds and the culture of the countries we invade, and destabilizes whatever government we meddle with or for.

I’ve witnessed that horror up close, so no—I would, and could, never re-enlist for that. My volunteer services, which I gladly perform, work for positive outcomes for human beings.
