    Jump Wings

    Good Afternoon Marines!

I have a quick question that my recruiter didn't make clear to me when I spoke with him last Thursday so I thought I would get a quicker response than waiting to talk to him in person on here.

Every since I was younger I always wanted to join the Army Airborne. As I grew older some things changed and of course I made the decision to enlist in Corps. My question is am I still able to go to jump school with the Marine Corps? I currently have a UH Infantry 03XX contract as a Poolee. If so, what would I have to do or say to get a chance to earn my wings?

    Thanks Marines!

    Well....
I may be wrong shooting from the hip but...

It seems to me that earning jump wings would be MOS dependent.
Not something one just requests because they want to.

If the MOS the USMC assigns you requires it then you'd go to a jump school.
IE: if you're an 0811 like myself (4.2 mortars) jump school isn't necessary for that MOS.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parachu...ited_States%29
"The majority of the services earn their Basic Parachutist Badge through the U.S. Army Airborne School."

First, I'd suggest see what MOS you'll be offered and then concentrate on getting through boot camp.

    Good luck....

EDIT: I missed you were assigned to infantry already...oversight on my part.

Thank you Corporal. I appreciate your response. I will look further into which MOS requires you to go to jump school.

Pretty much what chulaivet1966 said but I will add this.
Jump school was pretty much handled through Recon. As a Radio Repairman, I had to the opportunity to join 1st Force Recon and was afforded the opportunity at dive qualification and jump qualification. Being that I only had 1 year left and I knew that I was definitely not reenlisting, I chose not to go to those schools. So even though my MOS did not have a dive or jump requirement, there was another way to obtain it. Thinking back on it, I wish that I would have done both.

    Ha...
I got back alive with all my limbs and knew the same thing.

But, if I'd had your opportunity with a couple years left I'd have done it.
Let's face it...I was still young, dumb with a surplus of testosterone.

    Back to topic....carry on.

    short answer, not gonna happen

Unless you are in a jump billet where jump school is required(eg. recon and riggers) you're not gonna go. Jump school seats are very few and far between.

Probably about the same chance I have of being selected as the next CMC... Unless you re-enlist and get that as part of your re-enlistment. That also would assume you make it though boot camp MCT/SOI and then dont get broken NJP or VEERP or the littany of other things that can happen in a first enlistment and make it to re-enlistment... Also assuming there are slots at the school house.
