Army vs. Marines
I am 17 years old and ill be turning 18 in July. My heart and mind is set on enlisting in the military as soon as I turn 18. Im 5'11 and about 165lbs. Im a varsity athlete in both hockey and baseball so I would like to think im in pretty good shape for my age. I grew up without a father so my uncle tried his best to be a father figure for me. My uncle is a former army ranger and wants me to follow in his footsteps but I am more interested in the Marine Corps. I would like to get into the law enforcement field when I come out so im trying to figure out what branch and what mos will give me the best advantage. My uncle belives I have the skills and mindset to become a great ranger but I belive the Marine Corps is a better fit for me. Should I look more into becoming a Ranger or stay with my heart and become a infantry Marine? What other options should I look into? Will a infantry mos help me in my goal of becoming a law enforcement officer?
Thank you for taking your time to read this and im looking forward to your responces.

We can't say what is best for you "Grasshopper"
by what you have asked above , neither choice
is a wrong choice, Marines ARE NOT the only
US Military branch that is hired by Civilian Governments
to be law enforcement officers.
IF you do enlist in either the US Army or the USMC
just "do your best" doing your job while you serve.
You shouldn't have any problems getting a job
as a L.E.O. when you discharge from the Military.
No-matter what your choice was..

If you choose the Army, you'll always be asking yourself if you could have made it in the Marine Corps. Go talk to your Marine recruiter and see what he has to say.

If you feel the Marines are a better fit, go with what you want to do. Kudos to your uncle for wanting you to join the military, but follow your own heart and mind. If you make a wrong decision it's always easier to live with your own choice than it is when it's someone else's choice for you.
Either should be good for law enforcement, but just keep in mind that either way you'll have a lot of competition from other former military to compete with.

Follow your heart. It's your life to live not your Uncles.
Best of luck to you on your decision.

You can go to Ranger school in the Marines.

Yup....a few guys in my platoon went through Ranger school. Mike, I don't think you will find many guys here who are going to have anything bad to say about Rangers...they are a rock-solid, very professional bunch of guys who kick ass and take names. I would go into combat with Rangers any day of the week. Marines are unique though. Ultimately it is your choice, your life, and it is going to pay off for you to be well-informed and do your homework.
