    Also not to be confused with DUTY SECTION where a certain % of the base had to stay on base in case the sh$t hit the fan somewhere. I wonder if they still have duty sections?

    Was there when the Shah of Iran had some of his Navy there, they were friendly then.

    The barracks duty I had I had to sweep,mop, and buff the the deck then clean the head,the tv room then wait for the SgtMaj to give me the ok to secure for the day.Thats was thirty day at a time,same with mess duty.

    Was discharged from there in 71...put on duty NCO night before I got out...read trashy books in the desk all night woke up the mess duty guys..turned on the lights whenever, got dressed went down to admin and got my goodbye papers...if nobody got up, not my problem....hated the place....

    Marine you must have been there before they built the three story barracks.I guess the old barracks wre at mainside.

    Marine Barracks Portsmouth NH & Portmouth VA

    I was stationed at MB Portsmouth VA in 1950 and MB Portsmouth NH in 1955. I would like to see some photographs of either.
    And I would like to know the name of the streets they were on. For ariel views. SEMPER-FI or as we used to say GUNG-HO

    As I mentioned in an earlier post, I served at the Philadelphia Naval Ship Yard from 1972 till I was mustered out in late 1973. I was attached to the Marine Barracks, Brig Section. I was wondering if anyone who worked the Brig, either prior to or after my tour there, remembers hearing of "Herman the German" and his incarceration as a P.O.W. there in Philly during WWII?
