Unfortunately there are a lot of people who are thinking the same thing. In this economy, you need to ensure that you are at the top of the applicant list (pt, leadership potential, etc...).

Weigh the (perceived) benefits/challenges of both options, and do what is best for you.

I don't know the answer to your question, but I think we were at MCRD together. I was in platoon 2106 if memory serves, and graduated the same day. Why do you want to go back after so long?

How old are you, Iain? If you haven't already, think about college, maybe an opportunity will present itself down the road.

There is no shortage of applicants at this time, and probably won't be for quite a time. Just read a few of the threads, and see how many Marines are trying to get back in.

Aside from not going to boot camp, and enlisting at an elevated rank, it appears they are Marines. Feel free to tell them they are just honorary Marines, and see what happens.

I have been thinking about trying to go back for the reserves. I got in 2001, after four years on AD. Were you able to choose your MOS, or were you limited with options?

How have you found the process to be for going back into the reserves after an extended separation? How long were you on active duty?
