William Robert "Butch" Denby
William Robert "Butch" Denby Jr., 62, of Philadelphia formerly of Vineland, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, Feb. 12, 2012, at the Philadelphia Veterans Hospital after a brief illness.
Born in Vineland to Beatrice Polk and the Late William Robert Denby Sr., he was a member of the United States Marine Corps from 1969-75. While serving with the Marines, Butch received a Purple Heart, Combat Action Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and Vietnam Campaign Medal. Butch was an avid football fan, with the Eagles his favorite team. He also enjoyed fishing and socializing.
Butch leaves to cherish his memories a loving and devoted wife, Catherine (Mackey) Denby; his mother, Beatrice Polk; three sons, Leonard (Lynette) Reaves, Perry Reaves and Lewis Lloyd; three daughters, Loretta Reaves, Lisa Gaymon and Toreda (Benjamin) Rivera; one sister, Lillian Denby; ten grandchildren; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Butch was preceded in death by one son, William R. Denby III; and one daughter, Khali Wallace.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday at the Union Baptist Temple Church, 30 Dr. Martin Lther King Jr. Way, where friends may view two hours prior to services. Interment will be held at the Cumberland County Veterans Cemetery, Hopewell Township.
