    Hello Gunny!
This is Ron Beaman. I was a 2542 in the same Comm Center from Aug 68 to May 69. I was the primary tape cutter along with a guy by the name of Bruce Parten. I think he was from Arkansas. He was our running back on the intramural football team. Hopefully this message finds you! Please contact me whenever you can.

Welcome to my friends list Gunny, Semper FI.
  8. With 2 years before you start training, I doubt that the recruiter really wants to talk with you much. It's just that in 2 years so much can happen and usually does. I wouldn't worry about anything until after you sign on the dotted line. Daily jogging is good practice, but it is also just good for you period. The Marine run is 3 miles. You can do a google search "marine corps physical fitness standards" and it will give you all the info on times, and number of exercises, etc. In the mean time, the Corps needs educated people who can think on their own and make good decisions. Do the best you can in school. English is very important. If you cannot communicate and make your self understood the first time, people die. Learn to read and write at the highest level possible. Secondly, learn to be mature and make good decisions. Stand tall and act like a man. Men build, they don't tear down. They protect and defend. I take it that you are still in high school. Junior? It's time for you to try and understand what respect really is and honor your parents, teachers, and community leaders. It's time for you to step up and do your share without being told to do it. Practice everyday and one day it will be a part of you. At the end of your junior year, if you still want to be a Marine, go talk to the recruiter. Your really need a good score on the ASVAB. It opens a lot of jobs up for you. Being a rifleman is good, but the rifleman can't do his job without hundres of others behind the sceen getting the supplies he needs, cooking meals, providing transportation, etc. Regardless of what job you get, you will be a rifleman first. Good ASVAB scores are important, especially later when you may get a chance at becoming a warrant officer or an officer. You've got to be smart to get ahead. Do well in school.
