I want to join the Marine Corps in four years, after college, and be part of the Force Recon. I know that I need to workout and get into shape before Boot Camp for BRC but I don't know what workouts I should do. What exactly should I do to prepare for BRC before Boot Camp?
  2. yeah u can wear glasses. but if i can give you some advice, i got laser eye surgery before i went in. seriously the best decision ive ever made in my life. i highly recommend it!

    Hey domforce,

Hope all is well. I'm enlisting this upcoming August and I want to get a UZ 0321 contract, but I wear glasses. Will i be eligible to try for recon with glasses, or is that not
    possible?

Hey LCpl, just wanted to say great favorite quote. I've read a lot of Mill and am a big fan. That quote is one of my favorites too.
  5. yes but its better to just get an 0321 contract right off the bat

Dom can I go into the reserves as a 0311 or 0331 and then switch to recon MOS later on?
  7. Hey MotoDad, no you do not need a specific shooting qualification to get into recon. However, once you get into recon and want to become a recon sniper you will need an expert qualification to attend the scout/sniper course.
As far as recon marines out of bootcamp/ITB, I would say about 75% of them were newer marines out of ITB. The rest were either POGs that lat moved to recon or navy corpsman that attended the course to become SARCs (special amphibious reconnaissance corpsman). As far as performance I would say that the newer marines did better physically and the older corporals and sergeants that lat moved did better academically. Probably because the newer marines are younger and in better shape coming out of highschool and the older marines have mostly all attended college and have better study skills so they do better on the exams. Let me know if you got any other questions

    Hello Gavin,

Is there a shooting-qualification level required that a recruit must obtain in Boot Camp in order to go to RIP / BRC?

I have found NOTHING that says a recruit in Boot must qualify "Expert" or "Sharpshooter"......my sources tell me that qualifying "Marksman" and above is fine for RIP / BRC...

    Is this correct?

I've heard only the Scout/Sniper MOS requires a shooting-qual above "Marksman" (apparently S/S does require a current "Expert" rating to be eligible for their indoc).....

Did you know any guys in RIP or BRC who qualified "Marksman" in Boot?

    Last Question:

What % of your BRC class were new boot camp / ITB grads, and what % were lat-movers from the fleet? Did the lat-movers have more success in BRC than the new boots? Or were they about equal?

    Thanks much,
    MotoDad
  9. I was in ROTC for a year and i hated it so i decided to go enlisted because i wanted to out in the field blowing **** up instead of behind a desk

Dom, I am currently a junior in college and have a dilemma. I am 110% I want to join the corps after college, but to which route; officer or enlisted. I noticed that you are a college graduate and was wondering why you chose the path you did, and for what reasons? Certain goals you felt you could only obtain as an enlisted Marine...or other. Any help would be great.
