    What's Special About a Marine?

    Author: unknown

Ask a Marine what's so special about the Marines and the answer would be "Esprit de Corps", an unhelpful French phrase that means exactly what it looks like - the spirit of the Corps, but what is that spirit, and where does it come from?
The Marine Corps is the only branch of the U.S. Armed Forces that recruits people specifically to fight.
    The Army ...

  2. Need help and advice from anyone willing

Ok everyone, here is my situation. I'm a 7 year Sgt. on my second enlistment. I have 2 years left on my contract. I am enrolled in college classes and will be done in January of 2010, 6 months before my EAS. I'm at a major crossroads in my life and career. I'm torn on so many directions I could go that I'm getting overwhelmed with the choices. I'm thinking if I get accepted for MECEP, maybe going that route. There is also the Warrant Officer route that I have wanted to do for a long time. ...

  3. why i cant go to iraq?

currently im in a bind, i enlisted in the marine corps to go and fight for my country, but it seems that my command doesnt want me to go, thats why they put marines who are of lesser rank than you on the list for the oif deployment and completly disregard you. i dont think it is fair when the said marine made it clear when asked 2 months ago if he wanted to go, that he wanted to get fabbed out to gate guard. its stupid that your command would let this marine go when he doesnt want to be there. even ...

  4. Missing Fitness Reports

I am trying to return to active duty, but have hit a snag. I am missing two fitness reports from several years ago, and have to get the gaps filled in order to reinlist. The problem is I am no longer in, so I am having a hard time getting in contact with the right people. Like they say hand a Marine a rifle good to go, hand a Marine paperwork stand by.
Any solid info in this matter would be greatly appreciated, thanks brothers. Semper Fi

  5. Interservice Rivalry

As you well know, the four (five really) military services have their own separate and distinct cultures, and tend to, how shall we say, squabble, amongst themselves about allocation of funding, tasking, status, political connections, etc., etc.

One day, a recent civilian appointee at the Pentagon who had dealings with the representatives of the various military branches got fed up with the different jargon, terminology, ...

  6. While some people take it for granted, i never did.

I was born in Puebla Mexico in a beat up small town with no cars and only dirt roads. I came to the United States when i was about nine years old and have loved it here ever since. I was always fascinated by watching Police Officers arrest bad guys and do whats right. Of course i was the first generation of my family to live here in the united states so my family expceted me to do something productive with my life.
When i was in highschool it was around when September 11 happened. I started ...

  7. Why I chose to be a Marine.

I'd like to post a few comments about the recruiting approach of the Corp vs the other branches of the service and why I chose to be a Marine.
If you recall the recruiting posters over the years, you'll remember that the Army pushed choice over chance in regards to a career path. The Navy offered adventure, travel, etc. The Air Force invited you to join the space age. Thier msgs/appeals have varied over time, trying to find the right mix to attract recruits. I notice that the

This is a couple emails my buddy sends out. I DID NOT WRITE THIS. I am just posting it here to see what others think.

Most of you know I follow politics. Not the die hard, not the “oh this is popular” bandwagon either. I have my beliefs, as do you. Here is my view on some things:

Celebrities endorsing politics in like saying porn stars are real actors. I would like to see the bank accounts (all accounts) and see who was paid to endorse President Barrack Obama. Why is it that ...

  11. Can I Make It Through USMC Boot Camp?

There comes a time in life when you will ask yourself if you have what it takes to be a U.S. Marine. This question is a rather easy one to answer, but a very complex one to explain. From the outside the Marine Corps is spoken of as if it were near impossible to gain entry into it. Today because of the many movies, video games, and internet sources many people both civilian and military have many misconceptions about what the Marine Corps is like and what it takes to make it as a Marine. Many ...

It is contradictory and not clear cut. Below is what I received and the way I will do it. I should add, that usually former Marines would wear their personal decorations, or also the Navy or Presidential Unit Citation ribbon.

  13. Enlisted to Infantry Officer

I got out of the Marines in 07, so I could get my degree. I'm entering my third year of college now and I want to be an officer. I do miss the camaraderie. Enlisted, I was a comm Marine. I got to do a lot of very life altering things in my deployments to Fallujah and Hit. The one thing I didn't get to do was lead Marines in combat, although I did lead Marines in Iraq, it wasn't necesarily combat missions. I was basically on the sidelines while my fellow Marines kicked ass.

  14. Best rank in the Marine Corps?

Being a Pvt sucks. Need I say more?
PFC? Not as bad as Pvt, but just as grueling.
I loved being a LCpl because of the camaraderie with all the other reckless 19-21 yr olds running amuck during "hurricane parties" at the barracks in Camp Lejeune, but still a rough rank.
Cpl was gratifying as it is the first step to leading younger Marines (although at any rank we lead younger Marines).
Sgt was my favorite rank. Although I got out as a Sgt and didn't experience ...
