My friend told me of an old Vietnam vet that he met today that was in 1st Battalion 9th Marines, nicknamed The Walking Dead. I had never heard of them so, naturally, I googled them and a wikipedia article came up. I was amazed at what I was reading.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1st_Battalion_9th_Marines
During the entire Vietnam Conflict the Battalion was engaged in combat for 47 months and 7 days. From June 15th, 1965 - July 14th, 1969 they participated in 43 operations. They had the highest KIA rate in Marine Corps history, coming to 93.63% (approximately 747 Marines) killed in action and 0.25% (approximately 2 Marines) missing in action.
I think this is an important part of Marine Corps history and since we're all supposed to know ours, I thought I might as well give a lesson.
