HELLO Marines!

My name is Erik Redding aka Poolee Redding, and today i had yet another PT function out here in NY. Today two drill instructors came out and a Sgt Major( Sgt Major Heyward ) and it was intense. A ton of physical training which was awesome and i just loved every second of cadence while runing near civilians. After a lot of the PT was over all eight of the RSS stations sat platoon after platoon and we all had a tug of war against each other 10 v 10.

It was a very awesome MOTIVATING day and i cannot wait until i leave in September for recruit training.

I am not aloud to say this yet but

I had a great function today (also in New York), we learned about making maps and such for others to read, did some drilling, IST, and finally went over an m16a2...

We were supposed to get an m16a2, m9, and a bunch of other guns... but logistics failed (welcome to the Marine Corps haha).

Next month is family month... which should be fun :D

Yea today was my first real encounter with the drill instructors from PI I ship in a month they figured it would be necessary to give us Poolees a taste of boot camp. Enjoyed every moment

We have our Idaho State Poolee meeting on the 22nd and 23rd, pretty excited for that, gonna take us out to Gowen Base here in Boise and bring the Sand Diego RD drill instructors up. I'm bringing a friend that's tying to join the National Guard with me to try and change his mind haha, hope it works

Haha I joined the Idaho guard last June and got out in July to join the Marine Corps. Tell him itll be better in the Corps over the Idaho guard. The guard was a pain and didnt tell me I was out until I called them a week and a half before I was supposed to go to basic. Oh well MCRD SD here i come tomorrow.

You guys are making me feel left out lol. All we do is IST every second Saturday. The recruiters say that if all the poolees would pass the f***ing IST we would do some of the things you all are talking about. We are getting new poolees. Guy came in yesterday and could only do 0 pullups 22 crunches ran in 13:28 or something (not sure because I had to run back and try to motivate a guy who ended up running a 15:18). He was somewhat of a fat body but made weight. Some of these guys aren't even trying, and it is hard to help someone like that.

We have amazing recruiters, in addition to the second Saturday of the month IST stuff they hold a two-three hour pool function every Wednesday. The Wednesdays are the most intense because thats when their really trying to get us into shape and prepared. On the Saturdays we do our IST maybe some drill and play some game for a few hours. I think their working on getting a little obstacle course going, should be fun!

I just had an awesome PT yesterday, we did drill and marching and walking in formation. We also did the "Cock,Drill" etc ... The guys at my RSS (Coon Rapids MN) are all in pretty damn good shape. In addition my recruiters and the Sgts at my RSS are cool as hell. Enjoyed it a lot. I can't wait for the Mini Boot Camp that's coming up... we're definitely going to be the strongest RSS there.

Some of the things you guys are talking about I dont even know.

I.E. "Cock, Drill" I can't search to find out what this is without wading through pages and pages of porn... (dang I'm going to be up all night...oh what do we have here?...) oops got distracted but anyway, I live a long way away from these poolees and half the time they don't even come to the pool functions (which is the only time I see them) they manage to rotate out though to keep us from being able to do something besides IST.

Unfortunately, it is very unoriginal. I will have to change it once I come up with something better and original.

I like it too though, for now.

Anyways, sorry for derailing the thread. Now to my question:

My Gunny told us about something called "Family Night" at our all hands meeting this past Saturday. He said there's going to be a couple of Drill Instructors there for our parents to ask questions to and just get some information on what boot camp will be like. He also said that we'd be doing a small demonstration for our parents, just a couple of push ups. I know there's going to be more than just a couple of push ups, but I'm not sure what else we'll be doing. Has anyone ever been to one of these before? If so, can you tell me what we'll be doing? Thanks.

Looks like every body had an enjoyable weekend! My RSS took us out to a sort of park/trail, and we carried a 90-100lb+ log as a team of 4 around the trail that was about 1.5mi long. In intervals we did exercises with the log, acting as though it was a fallen Marine, we where told not to allow it to touch the ground. Exercises included doing push-ups with the "fallen Marine" on our backs, flutter kicks, hello dollys, squats, and many others. It was neat the amount of communication is needed to do all that without letting the "fallen Marine" touch the ground. After we returned from the course, we ran it, with out the log(since it returned being a log when we finished the course :P)...over all took my squad(we had two 4 man teams) 1hr 1min to do the course...

We did that with a tire haha, but since there were 7 of us, we had to go 3 miles...lol, running back words with a tire sucks, but it was a blast!

Yeah we had a good one as well out of RSS Madison, but we held the event at RSS Baraboo. We did an IST, played a few games of softball, flag football, and then had a cook out. On the 28th a few DI's are coming up for family night, which is gonna be a blast. Glad everyone had a good time this weekend.!

ONE giant trashing. Its not bad, its quite fun to be honest. Its just a small sample of what happens at boot camp.

We just had our "mini boot camp", but no parents were present. I loved it all, but the fact that I slept for something like 3 hours in a sleeping bag on concrete.

Had PT today, and f-ing LOVED IT.

We did about 6 miles total roughly, along the way doing Indian sprints (while jogging in two columns last two sprint to the front then keep pace while last two sprint to the front and so on) Then we did sprints, lunges, all that good stuff on concrete, then went back to the RS doing Indian sprints and regular jog along the way singing cadences. Got back, had a 3 minute water break then did about 45 minutes in the grass, lunges, crunches, flutter kicks (I think that's what they're called) and all kinds of other good stuff.

then, chin ups.

Ohh yes.
