I would like to go 03xx Officer.

Plan 2: After High School enlist in the Marines and grad. Boot Camp and get into the field of 03xx and attempt to make a career out of the Marines.

For me ahhhhh, enlist by the end of the year,(0311)or(0341,mortar), im in good enough shape now, I need to cut down some muscle mass to help my long distance running (im sure boot will do that). I hear Recon is fun maybe pull for that, Battalion or Force, no matter im sure there both good times. Then maybe if I stick around for a while look in to the Warrant Officer Program.

My dream is that once I finish high school I'll be able to join the Corps and get into the 0300 field. Right now I'm not really sure what I want to do or what I want out of life and I'm hoping that the Marines will help me do this while also becoming a man.

I have met only several Marines in my life but the way they conduct themselves even in everyday activity is what impresses me so much and I hope to be the same way. I'm not really sure what I will do once I get out of the Corps but if I like it enough I may consider making a career of it. If not I'm sure that I'll be able to find something and I will be happy knowing that I will be able to live life with no regrets:marine:

USMChopeful1178, you may want to fill out all of your profile so the Marines who are going to answer any questions that you may have, know who they are talking to, and read the site rules in the poolee and the Ask A Marine forums also.

I want to be a mechanic or engineer. I still haven't decided if I want to go into the Marines or another branch yet. Thats the only reason I'm here, in order to find out if it would be best for me.

Get NROTC scholarship or go "College Program",
then try and become the best 03XX Marine Officer I can be.
I don't know how long I will be in,
The way I want to judge my service length is by how good of an officer I am. If I am a poor officer while in the Corps I will do my best to get out ASAP. If I find that I am leading well then I guess I will stay in a while.

However, I will never really know how long until I am actually in with a commission and a few years in the fleet under my belt.

By the way I have been a wannabe for about five years know.

First and foremost, I just want to be a Marine. However, if I could pick anything it would be 03XX or 0861.

Well, if you've seen a recruiter yet, he/she would've told you that females aren't allowed to go infantry, and so would've your cousin that you say is in the Marine Corps.

In case you didn't know you don't get to pick your MOS as an officer, you get a wish list while in TBS, which is the school you go to right after OCS. Depending on how well you do against your peers determines if you get what you want or not. Also officers can give up their commission at any time they want.

Well, after these last three months of High School, I plan on going to a local community college for 2 years to earn my Associates in Criminal Justice.

I'll be 18 in December, so I want to discuss the training options whilst in College whether I can go to Boot Camp and SOI during the summers, or if that is only an option for Reservists.

Anyways, once I do sign up, i'm hoping for a Uniform Zulu (UZ) contract which will guarantee a spot to try out for Recon. If I make it, then woohoo I can join the CIA and become part of the Special Activities Division. If not, then no big deal, i'll be an 03 Marine.

I hope your parents aren't forcing you to go to school. My moms trying to get me to go into the 2 yr college deal.A friend of mine who is a recruiter says parents do that to try and stall you from joining and get you caught up in school.I'm 18 and my only setback is my weight, and I don't have the balls to remind her(I told her 2 summers ago)

Just hope this is your decision bro:thumbup:

You have a contract of 6 years Active and 2 years in the IRR. You dont have to wait to reenlist. I dont know how long it will be for you to reenlist but you do not have to wait until your IRR is up to do it, you can do it while your still active.

This isn't ment to offend anyone, but why do so many people want to become a super secret James Bond guy in the FBI. Cruz's post brought it to mind, and its not just him, its many people who always want to try and become one. I dont know if it really is your dream or if its because of James Bond but I can tell you this right now, its not. I dont know if it's just me or what.. Carry on fellow Poolee's

You claim to be a Poolee in the DEP but you stated you have not enlisted and you do not have a ship date, there for you are still a wannabe and are not a Poolee, please contact a Mod and have account changed to the correct status.

I talked to an Army Colonel today for a few hours. He said that the guys he knew/knows took 15 years to get their Assosiates Degree. I was determined to be enlisted and go to college, but after our conversation I've decided to go to school and do the ROTC or PLC program. Also, instead of infantry/recon I'm leaning more toward EOD and POG jobs. Every Marine's a Rifleman, so why not be a trained killer, and also be trained in other things as well?

:usmc:

yeh, but he probably was not really motivated to get his degree. I will.
Say we wake up at 0600 for PT
dont start work until 0800, let's say I have a 10 hour day, i get off at 1800
so I have 12 hours to spare right?
everyday I will use 8 of those hours for sleep, then 4 for school.
Going to be a no-fun stressfull 4 years. But it'll be worth it.

I'm shipping off to MCRDPI on April 5th (a week and a half) and am going as 8152 Security Force Guard. Once that two year billet is up, I'm going to try out for Recon. If I don't make it, then I am going to apply for the MECEP program and hopefully get my commission after I finish school. I'm going to try for flight school!

He may have just got jumpy. Good luck on your ASVAB. I'm sure you will do fine. I made an 88 and had 10+ unanswered questions. I'm not happy with that score at all though. I qualify for any job I want in the Marine Corps (or at least that is what my recruiter says).
