Recently I decided I wanted Infantry, MY recruiter was all for it seeing as he is in infantry, so I talked to the main recruiter today about my MOS. I told him I wanted infantry but he kept repeating "you're a smart kid", basically saying "pick something else". There were infantry contracts open but they were 5 year and 6 year contracts and that kind of turned me off. So I asked about my next choice which was tanks and he said that wasnt open. So then he referred me to the engineer field and I like the Combat Engineer MOS. I said thats what I wanted so he said hes gotta get it "OK'd" but I know only the field can be gauranteed, but I dont want any job in that field besides CE. Are there any other "combat related" jobs out there? Besides what I mentioned and MP. I just wanna know before I go with the 13xx field. I kinda feel I still want infantry but the 6-year thing im not so sure about. Any answers would be appreciated.

I was in the same boat. I joined the Marines because I wanted to be in the infantry, so what's 1 more year. I signed a G2 contract. It's 5 years, you mentioned that there were 5 year contracts, so why not sign that. To the best of my knowledge there isn't a job quite like infantry. I also read somewhere yesterday that you cannot LAT move to infantry. So if you don't get it your first time around you cannot get it later.

To answer your question. Security forces or MP, maybe combat engineer, comms if you get attached in an infantry unit.

Ask about the b6 option. The majority of the fields in that contract are combat related. Includes everything from artillery to MP to tanks, plus some. If you really want infantry I'd take the five year. It's one extra year.

If your recruiter has is saying "you're a smart kid," then he sees something in you. Remember he's been in the Corps, he has experience and he's getting to know you well. Take his advice.

When I did my interview with the Master Gy Sgt of our region, he was Infantry and I expressed interest in it. Well he saw I nearly aced the joke of a practice ASVAB and that I'm about to get a Bachelor's and he says to me "Look, I'm not going to be the one who tells you what not to do in the Corps, it's your life, and I have nothing against infantry. BUT, you're a smart kid and it would be wise to use your brain" Well coming from a career infantry-man, Master Gy, I took the hint and began searching for other options.

What is your current contract right now?

It wasnt my recruiter saying it, it was the SNOIC. My recruiter is a grunt and he basically said " you know im not gonna tell you no". I dont have a contract now, I just DEP'd in a month or so ago. I think Im gonna stick with Electrician/Engineering field. I wanted to "get" something out of my MOS. A few weeks ago I could care less what job I got, but now I want to be out in the field. So I think Im gonna stick with what I told him today. He said I will probbaly sign the contract on thursday. I had some time to think about it, thanks for the input. If I get CE, great, but if not oh well. Although Bulk Fuel Specialist doesnt sound that appealing. I got an 86 on the ASVAB so im hoping they wont stick me there.

OK? Why did you even make this thread then? Well I got a 93 on the ASVAB so what? They can't stick you anywhere that you don't sign for.

I said I thought it over, between making this thread and the last post.... researching. I looked at some of those you named and I know with Radio Operator you can be put with an infantry unit but its not promised. I decided to just hope for CE, but take what I get. With the infantry contracts I know its only 1 extra year but I just dont want that. You threw some ideas and I looked em over, I dont see why you feel the need question why I made the thread.

"They can't stick you anywhere that you don't sign for." ......Uh, Bulk Fuel Specialist falls under 13xx, so I definately can get put there. The reason I mentioned my ASVAB is because the line score min. for Bulk Fuel is low and since my score is kinda high I would hope they wouldnt put me there. Get it???
