New Haven (WTNH) - Dozens of Marines from Connecticut and the rest of New England said goodbye to loved ones early Wednesday before heading off for training and deployment in Operation Iraqi Freedom.
The Marines are members of the 6th Motor Transport Battalion, 1st Truck Platoon from the New Haven reserve center.
After training at Camp LeJeune in North Carolina they unit will be leaving for overseas. Their deployment will last the better part of a year.
About 20% of the group will be on their first mission.
Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumenthal, a Marine himself, attended the send off.
