How would I go about having my DD 214 updated with regards to ribbons and awards, specifically the CAR. I need it for the local VFW, my service was long ago. What is a DD 215 ? Have heard something about Standard Form 180, what is that used for ?

ED...the gentleman is a Viet Nam Vet, 61 years old, and RE-tired!! Buddy....posting all that SH!T, will only confuse him!! If CRASH has a computer, all he has to do is go to the VA home page, and click on the appropriate site. That will take him to a BUPERS site. Fill out the on line paperwork...sign it, and send it off!!!....Took me just over 3 months to get my DD215. Got to REMEMBER...a lot of vets are retiring now, and they're ALL trying to get copies!! BEST OF LUCK...CRASH!!!!.....DOC

Will check out the VA site, I know Ed ment well but my head started to hurt ! My thanks to you both....All I needed was for the ribbon section of my DD 214 to be updated, the VA site can get that done for me ?

Your DD-214 is permanate and unchangeable. The DD-215 is an updated addendum to the 214 and where needed for whatever purpose of demonstrating military service both if applicable will be presented. The SF-180 is simply a form used to apply for a DD-215. You must do the research and demonstrate what updates to your 214 are needed. They aint gonna do it for ya.
