BEAUFORT, S.C. — The Blue Angels flying team is returning to South Carolina, two years after a crash claimed the life of one of the Navy’s demonstration pilots.

The aerial team will perform at an air show at the Marine Corps Air Station in Beaufort this weekend.

It is the first time the team has performed there since April 2007, when one pilot crashed his F/A-18 Hornet jet in a residential area near the base. Lt. Cmdr. Kevin Davis died in the fiery crash.

Investigators found the 32-year-old pilot became disoriented after a high-speed turn because he failed to properly tense his abdominal muscles. It was his first season flying with the Navy team.

Marine Corps officials say they expect 150,000 people on Saturday and Sunday. A practice session will be held on Friday.
