I have been trying to enlist since November of 2008 and I'm still no closer to MCRD San Diego. I was disqualified my first time at Los Angeles MEPS because I had a surgery to correct my Vesicoureteral Reflux as a toddler. The surgery was a success and I've had no restrictions or complications since.

I've been to Los Angeles MEPS two more times since; the second time was to apply for a medical waiver and the third was for a medical consult. The medical consult was with a civilian doctor and it wasn't even the right kind of doctor! Apparently I need a specialist and the white coats arent cheap. I've had two other recent appointments for a medical consult but both were cancelled last minute. I guess MEPS isn't willing to spend $600 for a kid they figure is a lost cause.

The part that makes me angry is that I have not had any restrictions or complications because of my surgery. I love P.T., I love marching, I love the dress blues, I love the brotherhood. The Marine Corps is only reason I get up in the morning and face another day at my crap dead-end job, just hoping to hear from my recruiter that I got an appointment.

I'll I've wanted to be is a Marine, and I'd be honored for the chance to get into Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego.

P.S. I know it's not really a question but I'm just venting my frustration. I'll gladly do push-ups as punishment.

Once you're done sweating for the LCpl pony up for a specialist. Tell them you have no insurance and you need an outside consult so you can apply for a waiver to enter the service.

A CBP, urine sample and ultrasound later you should have the records you need for MEPS. Confer with your recruiter first. Then report back to the LCpl and pay her again.

All right, it's been a while hasn't it? I've been to Los Angeles MEPS twice more since my last post. I finally got the appointment with a nephrologist. The third time I went up there, MEPS gave the green light for a consult and nothing more. I exchanged words with the nephrologist for maybe five minutes and had to return home. My fourth visit to MEPS had me finally get the renal ultrasound I needed for my medical waiver, along with urine and blood tests. I left thinking that I had finally won my battle to get into San Diego.

I just got word from my recruiter that the Navy doctors want me to get a renal ultrasound, urine tests, and blood tests.

:evilgrin:I'm still not quiting.

Keep that determination and you'll be there eventually. If not, best of luck to you.

I have received the final word from MEPS. They sent my recruiter a letter stating that the refuse to process me any further. I asked my recruiter if there was anything, absolutely ANYTHING I could do to change their minds. He stated that it was near impossible and that the only thing left he can think of is to send a letter to the California congressman, but even that was very slim. That would be my last stand, so to speak. Any suggestions to the format of the letter?

:evilgrin:I refuse to quit.

Yeah, I moved from Bakersfield, CA (which is Sacramento region at L.A. M.E.P.S.) to San Bernardino, CA. I tried another recruiter down here and he said that his gunny told him to not even touch me because I had already "popped". I'm willing to write a letter to the congressman, even the president. I'm just a little worried about the format of the letter. My disqualification is based on a problem I don't have, and being a Marine is something I've wanted to do for as long as I can remember.

:evilgrin:I'm willing to fight this disqualification tooth and nail to serve my country.

Of course, forgive me for being rude. I forgot to put "Gunny" in quotation marks. That was how the Staff Sergeant I spoke to referred to his superior.

that doesn't mean putting it in quotations makes it better. I can call him gunz for all he cares, you still call him Gunnery Sergeant.

I did not mean to be disrespectful. By putting it into quotation marks I was trying to show that was the word the Staff Sergeant I spoke to used to refer to his Gunnery Sergeant. I would never disrespect a Gunnery Sergeant by referring to him as Gunny. I have always tried to be respectful to Marines and to this day refer to my recruiter by his rank and last name when I speak to him, along with his superior. Again, I did not mean to be disrespectful, Sir.

I sent a letter to the congressman of my district, Congressman Jerry Lewis. After six months of waiting I got the same response from the Navy doctors.

It seems I won't be fighting for my country anytime soon.

I would by lying if I said I wasn't disappointed, but I am not going to take up more time ****ing and moaning.

The Corps will always have my support, and I will always welcome a Marine as a friend.
