Thank You For Writing To Marines
posted April 14, 2009

We can never know the positive impact a letter, card or kind word may have on someone’s day, especially when that person is thousands of miles away on another continent, serving this nation of families while leaving a family behind.

I would like to thank everyone who took the time recently to drop off letters, cards and photos of encouragement at a Northwest Georgia Bank branch to be sent to Capt. Kurt Lipusz’s unit of 46 Marines stationed in Iraq.

Led by school counselor Jolee Parry, the student leaders at West Side Elementary collected more than 1,600 letters after a tremendous job planning and coordinating the service project while bringing the community on board.

The community dropped off more than 200 of those letters at local Northwest Georgia Bank branches, and Chik-fil-A in Fort Oglethorpe sponsored a biscuit sale to pay for postage.

We hope these letters will for a brief moment help these Marines take their minds off the perils of the world and provide some comfort in the knowledge that their efforts and sacrifices are not forgotten or unappreciated.

So to the teachers and students of Westside Elementary, employees of Northwest Georgia Bank, and the many local residents who wrote uplifting letters, thank you for making sure that these soldiers know they are held in the highest regard by those they serve and protect.

Knox Farmer
Vice President
Northwest Georgia Bank
