Ok I really hope I don't get jumped on for asking, but how do you know what MOS is right for you? I have found several listings of enlisted MOSes but I'm not sure what I'd be interested in/best at. Is there a way I could get a heading so I have a smaller group of jobs to consider? Or a survey of some sort I could take that could give me an idea? I'm sorry if a topic like this has already been posted I tried searching before adding junk to the forums. Also if it helps at all I have my ASVAB overall score and the scores for the four main categories. Thanks.

what sounds good to YOU?.....have you ever thoguht of what you want to do as any kind of job in your life?

DenverMilton

Well not really....I don't really have any likes I'm kinda weird like that I've always just been interested in what I can do well, and the only thing I'm good at school-wise is science.

What kind of science? If you're interested in meteorology like I am, you could sign up for METOC like I did. They also have fields in chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear defense.

Just some options for you.

Hmm I'm good at biological and chemical, but I'm not sure I'd be helping out to my fullest in those fields, would the scores from my ASVAB give me any hint at all what I'd be best at?

Seriously, you don't have anything you're interested in or want to do...? It's your job for next 4-5 years. We can't really tell you what to do about this subject. It's your job to choose your own path to walk on. We just help you along the way. Research some more and find out what sounds good to you. Ask your recruiter about what jobs you qualify for with your ASVAB score.

DenverMilton
03-16-09, 05:46 PM
Well the Sergeant is a busy man I don't like to bother him with my petty affairs....but I do supposed he'd be the best person to look to for help....I didn't get back from MEPS til around 22:00 so he was ready to leave and didn't really talk about my MOS options much, Sergeant Givens did tell me that they weren't getting a list of open MOSes until october 1st I believe and that we'd talk about it then....but it's all I can think about other than you know my training for boot camp, I just want to do the best I can to serve my country.

Well speaking of 03XX as an option, have you ever considered aviation? You'll have to talk to your recruiter no matter what, to choose your MOS.

If you think the infantry is a last resort then I second your opinion-you'll be better somewhere else too. Far better men than you have died striving to preserve the legacy you want to ride on the coattails of. Go Army, hooah?

Ok first of all I never said infantry was a last resort, I said it was my first choice but my SERGEANT, note my sergeant not me, thinks I would be able to help the cause more if I were doing something else and that came straight from his mouth, secondly you don't know me at all and there for can't tell me how good or bad of a man I am, honestly I'd die for my country any day, and thirdly how about you get off your high horse and stop bashing a young poolee who is just trying to serve his country the best he can?

Popcorn is ready boys....

I don't know though, this poolee might want to take a second out and square himself away. You did afterall make a comment that made you look dumb. Correct yourself, apologize, say Aye, LCPL and freakin hope and pray he's in a good mood.

Then again, there's gonna be a whole gaggle of Marines chomping at the bit to tear you to pieces for that same tired old argument of "you don't know me".

Don't come on here, make an off-hand remark and get all butt-hurt because the Marines on here don't like your tone, attitude or the content of your message.

I made no such comment my sergeant made that comment and I never said I agreed with him, I was simply saying what my sergeant had said to me I wasn't trying to put down anyone or hurt anyones "feelings" and I don't think I should have my *** jumped for that, and if he knew anything about me he'd know that if I wasn't willing to die for my country I wouldn't have signed up for the Marines in the first place, I would have gone navy. If me defending myself upset anyone other than LCpl Blood then I deeply appologize for it.

Reread the LCPL's response to yours. It starts with memememememe. It's about usususususus.

Next, learn to lock-step, and shut your suck, it will keep you out of trouble. If the LCPL decides that your tone implies disrespect towards his chosen field you'd better think of tactfully correcting your statement, not trying to correct the LCPL.

Afterwards, re-think your following posts. You're saying the SGT this and the SGT that like it's the SGT's freakin fault you're unclear in your posts. Respect is due the LCPL and until you earn it from him and earn the title he's gonna question your ability to possibly stand next to him in combat.

Lastly, save the dying for your country for when you get the chance; it makes you sound young and dumb. Patriotism tends to be a quiet thing, those quiet moments where you do your job in support of your country with the only thanks being the feeling that you did the right thing at the right time for the right reason.

Now learn some tact and brevity when dealing with those who've earned the title. It's your job to figure out why you're being corrected and to correct yourself.

Hows about I live out your dream as a 2141 for you instead, Cpl? I just got off the phone with the recruiter and 21xx is one of the only options available. That will be my first pick.

Let me give you the same advice I had to give a young poolee the other day. Log off this site and go find something that relaxes you. Enjoy yourself. Get laid. Chock you chicken. Do something away from this site because with comments like that, you are getting really close to one of these Marines handing you your a55 on a silver plater. Then when you log back on, tell these Marines you are sorry for being such a dumba55 and you would really like for some help from them. If your not willing to do this, then just log off and never return to this site.

You're right, I forgot myself, I took his response as a personal attack on me, I was unclear and I should learn to better control my temper (Though I'm sure they'll beat it out of me in boot camp from what I hear) I appologize sincerly to you, the LCpl, and anyone else I might have offended with my post, I simply ment that while infantry would be an amazing MOS that I'd be lucky to be part of I believe that I may to more good elsewhere, and please try to forgive me for being so young and dumb sirs.

The preferred method of torture for Marines. You should feel honored that your recruiter would PT you guys during your pool functions so now you should feel honored that you get to pay for your hot-headedness and misguided posts with good old blood, sweat and tears.

even if it were a personal attack on you, who are you to stand up and defend yorself?.... lets say as an example there was a PVT and a LCPL.....the PVT says something the LCPL takes offense to this......the LCPL chews the PVT a55 out and puts him down, the PVT should keep his cock hoslter shut and not remark on what the LCPL says to his he is below the LCPL and should just take it like a maninstead of opening his mouth and risk gettin his a55 handed to him by the LCPL or others for disrespecting the LCPL even more

Learn from it. You better learn to shut your mouth and not talk back or try to argue with your senior ranking Marine (if you ever make it through), no smart-a** comment either. If your Drill Instructor says the sky is red, you better say the same thing, (even if he says you're a dumba** and sends you to quarterdeck,) lol.

For me, there's nothing cooler than driving a AAV recovery vehicle out of the bowels of a ship into the open ocean while chubbing to shore firing MK19s at the enemy.

That's my definition of a Grade A MOS.

I got some advice from the MSgt. at my Recruiting Center for you, take it or leave it, but its actually pretty good. If you pick an MOS that you want to do after the Corps, you're going to love it now, and hate it later. He said to do something you're a little less interested in, and then pursue your dream after. Don't know if it applies to everyone, but it's pretty sound advice.
