View Full Version : Quick question before I DEP into the Marine Corps next week

I have searched high and low on these forums and asked my recruiter this question and couldn't get a straight answer. There is a specific job in the 03XX field that I want (0311 Rifleman). I understand you get the exact job that you want if you join the Marine Corps Reserves but due to my current complicated situation, I cant do the reserves. So if I go active duty, what are my chances of getting the 0311 Rifleman job? Do you get any say in which specific 03XX job you get? If someone can give me some insight, I'd be much obliged.

Now I know why Marines on this site get mad at us for being retarded. You have to look through the threads and sift through all of it to get your answer. There is not going to be a thread, unless you're lucky, that says "ITB MOS selection".

If you want 0311, you will get it. If they do select you for 51,52,31 etc, just fail the tests. Theyll make you an 11.

I don't believe any of us 03xxs are given specific jobs until (or during) SOI. The USMC doesn't guarantee specific jobs. The needs of the Marine Corps, no if, buts and ands...
I'd be just happy to be a Marine to be honest, and if I don't land 0321, and get assigned something, I'm good to go!

Lol I dont know why the hell anyone would be worried they couldn't get 11... Dont you have be chosen for all of the others? Can any Marines clairfy this for me?
