Last night we had family night with all of the poolees and their families. This was a lot of fun. We had a guest speaker who became very succesful after his Marine Corp. career. And we also got to meet the meanest Marine I have ever met.... Drill Instructor Sgt. Shnubbs (I'm not sure if that is exactly how you spell his name). He gave us a demonstration on how they "teach" recruits, and then gave us an overview of boot camp. All I have to say is that is probably the scariest guy I have ever met in my life. Parris Island here i come

I went to family night a couple days ago too. Whew...that was intense. It was really helpful to get a glimpse as to what the Drill Instructors will be like at boot, though. I got to experience the Drill Instructors up close more than once that night. I guess I'm going to have to get used to that breath of theirs. lol

Recruit rg2o3:
Sir, No, Sir! When this recruit was in DEP, there was a more scarier drill instructor, Sir!

His DI:
Get on my quarter deck and push until you think I am the scariest MoFo out there!!!

Hahaha. Just the other day one of the sergeants at the RSS was telling us about the breath of the DI's. "All they eat and drink is monster and snickers." Said it was god-awful.

I've spent 5 months in DEP and I leave in 2 weeks. I never got a parents night, lol. I hear one of the guys leaving from my recruiting station with me is related to a DI there. Maybe, if we get that DI only he will be targeted. Ok, all jokes aside. (yes they were terrible jokes, I know) I nearly died laughing when some of the guys were reading off the info for bootcamp about 8 hours of sleep per night, DI's not cussing or hitting you and things of that nature.

Personally, I feel like i'm read to go. Not like I really have a choice, since I leave on the 30th lol.

For our family day we just talk to the Drill Instructor about what Parris Island was about. Recently though we had a eastern Pool Function and a male and female Drill Instructor from Parris Island came and gave us a G version. They said the minute we step off that bus its R until we walk off the parade deck as Marines.

I love how poolees think all the DI's can do is make you get on the quarterdeck... but I guess thats what happens when you watch documentaries and don't see the real thing...

Sterotyping........hardly. Maybe a handful of you have more of an insight as to how it will be. MOST of you (poolies) assume and guess at it.

If you are having a bad day...... you definitely need to log off this site before you handle something else wrong and get your arse handed to you on a silver platter.

Other than that, go visit the girlfriend and get your rocks off so you will calm down then log back on.

You bastard. I was going to have fun with this and lay into you until you started acting right later in the thread.

Look, fact of the matter is poolees have no idea what goes on in boot camp and 99% of Marines won't tell you because you don't rate. The 1% that do come out and tell all the deep dirty secrets are usually BSing.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. If, as a poolee, you want to see what Marine Corps Recruit Training is like, watch Full Metal Jacket.

Well said Sgt, that another thing that gets me. Poolees that get butt hurt when you say something simple...what happens when a DI is in their face telling them their mother is a...well I don't want to ruin the surprise ;)

We just had our family night last Monday night, it wasn't too bad, except for the fact that there were a lot of parents asking questions like "So, do the Marines provide the civilian clothes for the boys when they go off base?"

The Senior Drill Instructor was just like, "No mam, that is why they are called civilian clothes." Also, another kid told his parents that he was going reserves, so his parents were asking questions about the reserves. His recruiter came over during the dinner and said, "Dude, your not going reserves, what have you been telling your parents". I bet that was an awkward ride home.

Anyone know if they still do scuz games at boot? Where they close all the portholes (which makes a squadbay turn into an oven), turn off the lights, and make everyone shut up so the highers ups think the squad bay is empty?

Achped, I dont think thats all they can do.. I just know at the mini boots they seem to do it as much as possible...? Of course i would have nothing to compare this to you so Ill agree with you. Many poolees including myself before have thought thats boot camp.. You stand there and get picked out one by one to get quarterdecked... I guess we will all learn soon enough.

BackhausD
03-13-09, 11:00 PM
I used to think that for a while, but just think about it. At the mini boot camps they do it in front of parents, recruiters and at mine there were Airman walking by(Air Force base), a Sgt Major and MGySgt. At PI or SD it's only you and your Drill Instructors. I guess that's why Marines say Marines are made in the squadbay and what happens in the platoon, stays in the platoon.

Ooopps, I just shat myself from thinking that will be me in a week...
