Those attending Saturday's Jacksonville-Onslow Chamber of Commerce's Business Expo will get a chance to view the newest rendition of the Museum of the Marine.

The architectural technology department at Coastal Carolina Community College will have a scale model of the proposed museum on display at the expo, according to a press release from the college. The museum has been actively seeking donations from the public for nearly a decade but has yet to begin construction, according to Daily News records.

Twelve students and two instructors from the department built the model, the release said.

"The quality of work by these students is just amazing." Bill Ayers, interim director of Museum of the Marine said in the release.

Patrick Jacques, department head and instructor of the Architectural Technology Program at Coastal, said the Museum of the Marine model provided an excellent learning tool.

"Doing a real-world project really lets the students get hands-on experience not only with how to physically build a presentation model, but also the many steps needed to get to a successful project conclusion," Jacques said in the release.

The scale model was handmade by students who worked from architectural drawings using foam core, balsa wood, matt board and Plexiglas.

The model will also be on display later this spring at the Marine South Trade Show aboard Camp Lejeune.
