Hi everyone,
Okay so here is the deal, my recruiter spoke with my high school and I will be done with school in March since I am doing a college for high school credit program at my school and will be done in early March. Ssgt. said that since that is the case, my high school will be getting my diploma to me in late March and I could leave for MCRD PI early like April 6th or a date close to there.

I have to pick a different job (I was originally going for middle eastern linguist) and the job openings available are Fixed Air Wing Mechanic, ELINT, Geographic Intelligence Specialist, and a Public Relations job. I do want to focus on just getting the EGA, but on the other hand I also would like to go in perhaps knowing what I will have to do once getting through boot and MCT, anyone who has done any of these jobs want to give me an idea or opinion on which one I should do?

Thanks a lot all of you, you always help out so much, I love this site. My recruiter even goes on here now to get the knowledge printed off for Poolees, and has recommended the sunday night chats!

Don't you want a senior year summer? Ahhhhh the memories!!!! The Corps will hold up fine without you for a few months and then maybe you could still get the job you want.

Lcpl. Actually I had to go back to high school in order to get my diploma since I graduated originally from a "alternative high school" so all my friends have graduated and gone to college, I had to go back to high school to get a diploma that would be acceptable for the Corps. But my senior year summer was wonderful. haha.

Roger, good to go. I'm a grunt, but my guess is your going to get an overwhelming "go air-wing" response, which isn't a bad thing by any means, I hear they have fun...

Personally I would say the grunts get all the fun, and I'm from ground comm field who was stationed at a air-wing base.

whoa whoa whoa, all what fun? Huh?

wingers work with the hot babes in places like iwakuni, kaneohe bay (and they DONT go to PTA) and Miramar. Grunts are stuck at PTA on the big island, lejeune, or pendleton. Not only that but all the stupid bs they do.

I would pick airwing any day. Even if I had to walk around Al Asad or TQ wearing those gay coveralls with my M16A2 from boot camp. I'd still do it.

I want to have all the fun the grunts have, ie blowing stuff, while having the joy of going back to my barracks at the end of the day in the A/C.

Cant I have both?

Ok, you need to have a summer with friends and family. The Corps will always be there so just hold on a few extra months...trust me...you will regret it if you dont.

!

So... out of curiosity, why don't you just wait and ship in October when all the jobs are open again?

My recruiter told me that the DC option (Crypto Linguist) was closed until the new FY rolled over, I said no problem, I'll wait until October. Now... in my case, MSgt at the RSS worked some magic and got me a contract, but I knew I wanted to go to DLI.

I'm sure you'll have a great experience doing any job if you have the right attitude, and I don't know what drew you to linguist in the first place, but if it's something you want to do, the Corps will wait for you.

I don't want to speak for her, but eight months is a long wait when you could leave in one and a half.

Anyway, if any of the available MOS' sound appealing, then I would leave early. But if you are dead set on being a Middle Eastern linguist, I would wait. I would rather wait eight months than hate my job for the next four years.

But who knows, you could love being a Fixed Air Wing Mechanic, ELINT, Geographic Intelligence Specialist, or have a Public Relations job.

Do what you think you will like the most. The Marine Corps isn't going anywhere.

I honestly don't know what I want to do with my life in terms of jobs other than knowing I have wanted to earn that Eagle, Globe, and Anchor since I was eight years old, I mean yes the job is important to me, hence why I wanted to be a linguist, but then of course getting to boot camp sooner to earn the title is good for me, I have been waiting a while now, I went through a lot to just become a Poolee and since the opportunity has arrived to go early, I will probably do that, I have good job opportunities too...I just have to decide which one it is I want to do. As I said earlier though, title first, job second.
