Looks good. Welcome to Leatherneck's Poolee Hall. Best damn place you could've stepped foot in. Don't hold back any questions or sharing any stories/advice as well you can offer. This is a great community for aspiring Marines to drop in on.

I'm guessing you're shipping to Parris Island from Indiana, right? I will be leaving exactly a week after you on the 9th of March, maybe we'll cross paths at some point...

Yeah, I will be going to san diego. Can't wait, 44 days left now. Do have 1 question that i can think of atm tho. If you sign a contract that includes more than one MOS, do you have any say in wich of these that you go into? I signed a managerial option contract, and have been told that it includes resource analyst, supply warehousing , aviation supply, legal services specialist, finance technician, and maintenance management specialist MOS's. Was kinda bummed at these choices at first as they all kind of sound boring, but i realy dont have any problem doing whatever until i get my time in to request a transfer. Would like to know if anyone here has done any of these jobs and has any first hand comments on what they're like tho. Also when reading about the maintenance management specialist MOS it says that after 6 months of duty on the job you can be awarded an additional MOS, just wondering if they're is restrictions on what you can choose when picking one of those, like if it has to be related in some way to your current job, etc...

And thank you all for all of the warm welcomes.

Please stop typing in code. Use proper punctuation and grammar and you'll get a lot more responses.

What do you plan on "transferring" to after your first enlistment?

Not quite sure what you mean about typing in code. <br />

Do have 1 question that i can think of atm tho.

I mean sentences like the one above. The word is "though" not tho! You write like a 5 year old and I'll treat you like one. You write like someone who has a brain like I saw in your last post, and I'll give you my undivided attention and any help I can offer.

So you insist on repeating it, after numerous warnings and immediately after thanking him for the correction. We as Poolee's/Future Marines must look after each other and keep each other in check. This is just one case. Come on bro.

I think that i'll be ok, I know they're just trying to sell you onto it and looking out for themselves. I'm 26 and have met plenty of salesmen before, and trust they're words accordingly. As far as hating the Corps, I don't know I will just have to wait and see. I'm always up for a good challenge though, otherwise I would never be doing the job that I do now. If I don't make it then atleast i'll be able to say that I gave it my all.

Welcome aboard and I hope you learn something here. One big rule is that if you want help or information you can't hold back....

I was arrested for OWI(Operating while intoxicated) the morning after I enlisted. I know how stupid it was and I'm not going to attempt an excuse. I ****ed up, end of story.

And I figured when I signed the contract that it would be boring, but I took what I could get to ship the soonest. I'm basicly homeless right now and do roofing, not a very prosperous job in the middle of winter.

I'll be more than happy to do whatever the Corps asks of me for the training and education that will support me throughout the rest of my life, not too mention a bed and three meals a day.

There you go; now I can see where you're coming from. No shame here. Maybe a little thick skinned required but nobody will hurt you. (except lil ms 84-she bites)

Sounds like you've taken responsibility for your choices and are just exploring your options. I'll take that over whiny b!tches any day.

Is your contract anything special? Like the "honorable call to service" or whatever they were? if not, you'll at least get MCT orders at the end of boot, and probably an OccField (the first 2 digits of your MOS) You will receive an MOS school assignment no later than MCT. my little brother was open contract and was given "dream sheet" at MCT not sure on the process or what not. Good luck to you and PM me if you need anything more specific.

Also, if anyone wants to throw a BS flag on this one, go ahead. I am only answering from second hand knowledge of most of these things..

As far as I know my contract is not anything special, just 4 yrs active and 4yrs reserve. Planning on staying active duty, but life seems to have a way of sending even the best plans to hell in a handbasket if it deems neccasary. Will just have to get there and find out.
