WASHINGTON, Dec. 24 (UPI) -- U.S. President George Bush phoned 45 deployed service members Wednesday, delivering holiday greetings and thanking them for their service.

Bush divided his calls evenly among the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force and Coast Guard, the American Forces Press Service said.

The White House said the president also sent greetings to all those observing Kwanzaa, the celebration of African culture, community and family traditions.

"As people across our country gather to commemorate this seven-day celebration, may we all be reminded that Kwanzaa is an opportunity to celebrate the many contributions of our African American citizens," Bush said. "Laura and I send our best wishes for a joyous Kwanzaa."

The president is spending Christmas with his family at Camp David. The Bush clan were to have what the White House described as a traditional Texas Christmas Eve dinner. The menu included enchiladas and tamales, rice and pinto beans and guacamole.

Their Christmas Day lunch will be roast turkey and cornbread dressing, grean beans, sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, spinach salad, giblet gravy, cranberry sauce and rolls with pumpkin and pecan pies for dessert.
