Snow will not deter Marines on a mission

Story by Fally Afani Ruzik (Contact)

2:50 p.m. Tuesday, December 16, 2008

Today's snow was no match for the Marines, who need your help getting toys to needy children.

They braved the snow and frigid temperatures for the Toys for Tots drive.

They're parked at the Walmart on Wanamaker and are hoping to fill the big truck with toys for needy children this holiday season.

But they say help is still desperately needed.

"The truck behind me is nowhere near full. As quickly as the toys are coming in, they're going right back out, in order to fill the toy request. Good news is, today's toys requests are full, bad news is I don't know how I'm going to fill tomorrow's," Gunnery Sgt. Keith Viau said.

They'll be out there until 9 o'clock Thursday morning.

Now if you want to help and can't bring out a toy, you can text "toy" to 90999.

This will help donate money to the Toys for Tots program.

That's not the only place you can go to help out Toys for Tots.

We're also gathering toys for children and the Toys for Tots program.

Just bring new, unwrapped toys to 49 News during business hours.

We are on 21st and Chelsea next to Fairlawn Plaza in Southwest Topeka.
