Groundbreaking launches $312M investigative agency complex

MARINE CORPS BASE QUANTICO, Va. — Marine Corps Base Quantico hosted a ground-breaking ceremony Nov. 24 for the facility that will house the Military Department Investigative Agencies.

The 719,000 square-foot facility, which will cost $312.5 million, is part of the ongoing Base Realignment and Closure process moves several criminal investigative services to Quantico by 2011. The agencies include: the Naval Criminal Investigative Service, Air Force Office of Special Investigations, Defense Intelligence Agency⁄ Human Intelligence, U.S. Army Criminal Investigative Command and the Defense Security Service.

Maj. Gen. Eugene G. Payne, assistant deputy commandant for Installations and Logistics, was among the participants in the ceremony which included representatives from each of the investigative agencies and the base commander for Quantico, Col. Charles A. Dallachie.

The Department of Defense awarded the firm-fixed-price contract to Chantilly-based Hensel Phelps Construction Company. Upon completion, the project will bring approximately 3,000 additional people to work aboard MCB Quantico.

‘‘In 21 months, we will be having a ribbon-cutting ceremony, and I can guarantee from now until then that Quantico will do everything that we can to make the hard work easy and welcome you all to the family at Quantico,” said Dallachie.
