PRESS RELEASE
Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation Challenges America to Help Military Families on Veterans Day

Last update: 2:56 p.m. EST Nov. 7, 2008

WASHINGTON, Nov 07, 2008 /PRNewswire-USNewswire via COMTEX/ -- The Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation, a private nonprofit, is challenging individuals and businesses nationwide to offer substantive support to military families on Veterans Day (November 11th). They hope to raise more than $100,000 around the Veterans Day holiday.

The Foundation provides academic scholarships to upstanding and deserving sons and daughters of Marines and Navy Corpsmen serving with Marines, with particular attention given to children whose parent was killed or wounded in action

"Support for these children could not come at a more important time," said Katie Hand, Vice President for Development. "The situation among Marine families is quite urgent. The mounting toll of the War on Terror, the astronomical rising costs of education, and the maturation of a new generation of Marines create a daunting forecast for supporting Marine families in need. Not surprisingly, Americans are looking for a way to truly say thank you -- to honor these men and women, not just by remembering, but by helping to fulfill their personal legacy."

Charity Navigator, America's premier independent charity evaluator, has positioned the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation in the top 29% of all education-related charities in their latest rankings. It gave the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation its highest ranking -- 4 stars -- far outranking many other military-related charities that have 1 or 0 stars.

Those interested in helping the children of Marines should call 1-866-IWO-JIMA (496-5462) or visit www.mcsf.org.
