CAMP FOSTER, Okinawa — Okinawa’s Marine Corps Community Services Marketing Broadcast Department recently received five bronze Telly Awards for its television and commercial programming.

Now in its 29th year, the Telly Awards is a national competition that annually honors local, regional and cable television commercials and programs, video and film productions, and online content.

The MCCS Broadcast Department manages and produces cable TV programs for on-base residents.

"Winning awards is a nice feather in our cap, but what matters more is providing the highest quality-of-life services and support for the warfighters and their families who live and work on Okinawa," said Jim Kassebaum, chief marketing officer for MCCS Okinawa.

The competition drew more than 14,000 entries, according to its Web site.

Winners received bronze statuettes designed by the same firm that makes the Oscar and the Emmy.

Kassebaum said MCCS winners were formally recognized at an awards luncheon Oct. 23 on Okinawa.

Winners were:

- Don Purdy and Shelley Merrell, co-producers and co-hosts of "Haisai Okinawa," were awarded Tellys in the "cultural television" and "television information" categories.

- Producer Kathy Millette and host Christina Bouza of "Community Connections" won Tellys in the "television information" and "television miscellaneous" categories.

- Producer Shelli Dumais received a Telly for her "Truckload of Fun" TV commercial in the "under $1,000 budget" category.
