MARINE CORPS AIR STATION NEW RIVER, N.C. (AP) - Marines from North Carolina are helping storm victims in Haiti after completing humanitarian work in Nicaragua and Colombia.

The Marines Corps said the troops are members of Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadron 464, which is based at Marine Corps Air Station New River. The Marines are based on the USS Kearsarge, where the squadron is temporarily based.

The squadron has been in Haiti for more than two weeks delivering food and supplies. Besides delivering 900,000 pounds of supplies, the Marines carried medical and engineering teams into areas of the country that aren't accessible by vehicle. One city is under three feet of mud.

Squadron commander Lt. Col. William C. Bentley said the Marines also plan to provide relief in Dominican Republic, Trinidad, Guyana and Panama.
