RI governor lowers flags after Marine death

PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Gov. Don Carcieri has ordered state flags lowered to honor a Rhode Island native who was killed in Iraq.
The family of Sgt. Michael Ferschke Jr., who was born in Woonsocket, says he died Sunday in Fallujah during a house search.
Ferschke, who lived in Maryville, Tenn., was assigned to the 3rd Reconnaissance Battalion, 3rd Marine Division.
He had married about a month ago and just found out his wife was going to have a baby.
Carcieri says Ferschke made the ultimate sacrifice for his country. Flags will remain at half staff until Monday morning.
