I was considering going Artillery, not sure on what to do yet.
And I have a friend thats in Artillery, and he said it sucks.
Any of you Marines that were in Artillery like it?

Your friend must still be a boot. Life for non-rates typically sucks. Your MOS experience is what you make of it. Some of us had great times pulling the lanyard and going BOOM!

If I had to do it over again, I probably would have went 03, though. Humpin the ranges at Pendleton made me glad I didn't at the time, though.

Yeah he's a boot.
Hes a PFC. He's been in the Marine Corps for about 6 months.
What do you do in a normal day? He said pretty much just clean, and pt?

What does that make him...2-6 weeks in the fleet? Don't listen to anything he says unless it's about boot camp!

The Marine Corps is what you make it.
Every job has their crappy parts and their fun parts.

You need to know your Trigonometry if you want to go anywhere in Arty.

LOL I'm in Geometry haha.
But yah, alot of Marines tell me the same thing, its what you make it out to be.
THe thing is, once you're in Artillery, there is nothing "elite" you can do right? Like for Infantry its Recon, for Ordnance its EOD, for MCSF its FAST, for MP its SRT.
Theres nothing for Arty right?

When not out in the field

My Bn hasn't shot a gun in....whew....a year? noo....longer.

There really isnt a use for artillery anymore, now we're just getting trained in convoy ops and detainee detention.

Unless you get sent to 3/12 in Okinawa, those freaking skaters....

Just about every MOS you will have to clean the weapon or office, pt, uniform inspections, JOBs, and etc. That is the beauty of being a boot. Then you prove yourself, advance in billets, and your the one conducting these exercises.

Pick what you think will be fun and bust your butt once you hit the fleet. It won't go unnoticed. Someone is always watching.

Junk On the Bunk. Its a gear inspection with all your issued gear in a specific spot. Makes sure that you have accountability of all your gear at all times.

Achped You are talking about my favorite Bn. 3/12 never skated anything in Vietnam. 3/12 was one of the shoot up arty BN. in Vietnam.

good advice here, Arty rocks kid... I'm Motor T myself and I was at the 43 area on pendleton and they were testing that automatic howitzer.... sweet! well, they blow stuff up and make it rain death from above.

the higher rank you are in the Marine Corps the more fun you have...

don't let it get to your head Sgt... they will stop respecting you. And don't take it easy either, paperwork when they mess up tends to show people you do what you gotta do, and being cool when everyone is doing what they are supposed to do shows them... well that you can be cool too.

congratulations on becoming a senior NCO.
