Marine Killed in Car Accident; Two Others Injured

An 18-year-old 29 Palms Marine was killed and two other marines were critically injured Monday night when their sedan rolled down an embankment off Highway 62 in Desert Center.
Richard Scott Bailey, 18, of Pheonix, Ariz. died shortly before 11 p.m. after he was found in a sedan 70 feet south of the highway, according to a Riverside County Coroner's report.
The three Marines were headed west on Highway 62 near Highway 177 when the car drifted into the opposite lane and the driver jerked the car back, according to the CHP.
The car spun across both lanes and overturned, partially ejecting Bailey, who was wearing a seatbelt, according to the CHP. Bailey died at the scene.
David Delk, a 19-year-old stationed at 29 Palms, and a third unknown Marine were airlifted to Desert Regional Medical Center, according to the CHP.
