Im sure many Marines around the world have children and they are still doing their job. He could drop out since he is only in DEP and not get in too much trouble since he isnt worth anything till after Boot Camp. He should just man up and do what he signed up for, if he doesnt he will regret it very quickly.

run like hell,

Sgt awbrown1462 has a very good point here...The USMC, like all of our militarys, is an excellent place to be for health coverage. I would not suggest joining the USMC only for the healthcare!!!! However, all young people find out that it's very difficult to take care of a family without good benefits such as insurance, healthcare, retirement, and a good old steady paycheck. No one gets rich in the military, but civil service is about the only employment source anymore that offers all the peripheral perks. Your friend may be getting the jitters before leaving for boot, and a new baby on the way has him second-guessing himself and his decision. He'll get past all of it if he wants it bad enough, and he may determine that a career in the USMC is one good way to take care of his new family. USMC life is not easy on any family, but there is certainly much worse. Good luck to him!

He has a commitment to uphold. What kind of example will he be showing his child if even before he is born , he cannont keep his word and be a man. The Marine Corps will be a good thing for him and his new family. Will it be tough, yes. But he will be a better man for it in the long run.
