SAN DIEGO -- A group of Marines wounded while fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan will graduate Thursday from a unique San Diego-based program that retrains them for jobs in film and media.

The inaugural class of the Wounded Marine Center for Careers in Media in Kearny Mesa has completed a 10-week training course in media, film, sound design, editing, graphics and filmmaking.

The program is offered by the Wounded Marine Careers Foundation, which seeks to teach marketable professional skills to returning Marines and sailors following their rehabilitation.

"Having entered the Marine Corps with patriotism and a desire to improve themselves, many young wounded warriors lack professional skills and have no alternative career to turn to upon leaving the hospital," the foundation states on its Web site.

Graduating Marines will get professional certification, union membership in the International Alliance of Theatre Stage Employees, and assistance with job placement, according to the foundation.
