Cox golf tourney raises $100,000 for injured Marines
It was golf with some old fashioned Marine Corps discipline thrown in on the links.

More than 200 patriotic golfers teed off Monday, March 10, at the Cox Community Golf Tournament to raise money for the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund, a charity for United States Marines injured in combat. The event raised $100,000 for the cause and helped golfers gain a first-hand appreciation for Marines and their service.

Cox Communications hosted the tournament, which was held at Coto de Caza Golf & Racquet Club in Coto de Caza.

The entire event was designed with a Marine Corps Boot Camp theme. On several holes, golfers participated in unique boot camp-style activities before they tee off, with Marine Corps drill instructors providing their signature brand of encouragement. Activities included Marine-style push-ups, jumping jacks, MRE tastings, marksman event, and much more. Favorite Marine recreational activities including poker were also included on the course.

At check-in, golfers had the opportunity to email personal thank-you messages to Marines currently serving in Iraq via Cox High Speed Internet.

Golfers paid $300 each to participate in the tournament. All proceeds were presented to the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund. This is the second year for the tournament, which raised more than $60,000 for Cox Charities for Orange County in its inaugural year.
